Activities and Attractions

Bulgaria

Bulgaria is becoming more and more popular as a destination for tourists from all around the world. With so many things to do and see you won't find a minute of boredom. Following is a list of activities and attractions that you will want to enjoy while visiting different areas of Bulgaria.

Sports

Mountains are a huge part of Bulgaria, with four ranges to choose from if you want to have some fun: (1) the Pirin mountains, (2) the Stara Planina, (3) the Rila, and (4) the Rhodope. Bulgaria, after major funding from the European Union, is proud to have three top quality ski resorts that are well know nationally. These three resorts are Bansko, Borovets, and Pamporovo.

During the summer months the mountain ranges are just as popular with tourists. You will find some of the best hiking trails in the Bulgarian mountains. As well, you can enjoy trail rides and mountain biking. Both are great ways to explore the beauty of Bulgaria.

Bulgarian Beach Resorts

There are 354 km of coastline for you to enjoy in Bulgaria, which runs along the Black Sea. Thousands of tourists travel to Bulgaria each year to enjoy the summer months in the sun. From May until October of every year, beach resorts along the coast of Bulgaria are teeming with people who want to enjoy the sun and water.

Along the coast you will find pristine, golden beaches. The average water temperature during the summer is often higher than Mediterranean waters. The Black Sea has very little tide action, which makes it ideal for people of all ages to enjoy.

Bulgarian Health Spas

Many areas along the coastline of Bulgaria are popular among tourists for their mud treatments. The mud comes from the coastal lakes and is considered to be beneficial for their healing properties as well to keep you looking young.

You will find more spas in the mountain regions of Bulgaria. There are many mineral water springs to be found, many which have a temperature of up to 60 degrees F. Some popular spa mountain towns include Bania and Velingrad. Both towns have ancient spas that can be traced back to the time of the Romans. Many different health cures are available at these spas, with costs that are about 20% to 30% less than similar spas in other areas of Europe.

Culture in Bulgaria

The rich culture and history of Bulgaria is why so many tourists come to visit the country. Some of the most influential archaeological sites in the history of Europe can be found in Bulgaria. Every day, new archaeological discoveries are being made. When you combine so much archaeology with culture you end up with so many different historic sites to visit. Many of these historic and archaeological sites have been given high status with UNESCO World Heritage.

Bulgaria has remained virtually untainted when it comes to retaining its traditional festivals and folklore. You can find a different celebration or festival almost every day in some part of the country. This can include celebrations such as the Valley of the Roses to somber Easter celebrations. Make sure that you take in at least one festival while visiting Bulgaria.
